“Don’t let the seemingly soul-wrenching uselessness of studying English grammar get to you! When we study grammar, we are knowingly or unknowingly studying the very foundations of language and contemporary human communication! Grammar helps tremendously in conveying meaning and information, by helping us articulate our thoughts in sentences that are widely understood amongst human beings; and it doesn’t get much more useful than that! Stop and think for a moment of where we would be without grammar. Civilization would grind to a halt! And you know what that means; we would be stripped of a sky-rocketing population, the Earth would be spared of our blind industrialization resulting in environmental, economical, and sociological disaster! The concrete jungle of human technological progress would quite possibly vanish into a cloud of disjointed iPods and consumer consumerism, and the heavenly promise of the American, Italian, French, English, Zulu, Australian, Vancouverite, Antarctic, Mediterranean, Iraqi, Iranian (and so on) dreams would implode right back into a fragmented image of Ug-Lug the infamous craftsmen of the post-pre-historic era chipping away at a block of stone, soon to be a wheel – and attempting to make progress.
Rant over. Now for the parts of speech.”
